This time of year always brings up the age old debate of what type of Tree to use and how sustainable they are.
🎄 Cut Trees - 120 million trees are cut down every Christmas across the world. Up to 10 million of those are bought right here in the UK. Go sustainable this year by choosing a local grower who is approved by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). Make sure to dispose of it sensibly by cutting down and composting branches or using the trunk to make a mini wildlife habitat from a log pile in the garden
🎄 Artificial Trees - As long as you carefully store it well, an artificial tree is as sustainable as a cut one within 10 years of use. If you're going to buy a new one, why not go for second hand?
I myself have a 7ft artificial one that I inherited from my dad, it's going on 15+ years now and with a few of us in the house with allergies, the fact that its made from plastic is not an issue, as long as you make it last.
🎄 Potted Trees - You can find potted trees from a local grower. You're able to take it inside for between 3-4 weeks as long as it's not too close to sources of heat. Water it each day and make sure to replant it in the garden, caring for it through the year
🎄 Rented Trees - Like potted trees there are loads of local growers or businesses that allow you to rent a potted tree for the festive period. Return it to let them look after it for another year. 🎄 Alternative Trees - Get crafty and make your own tree. Whether its from fabric, bits of wood or paper. Take care to pack it away each year and it will last for years to come
